2000 - The Birth Of the Scandinavian Region

The history of the Scandinavian region takes it's beginning in mid-september where a decision was made to split up some of the old regions as they were growing too big. UK and Canada was both split into two - and Scandinavia was seperated from Europe to create a region of our own.

Sufficient to say that Scandinavia was considered to become one of the weakest regions around, mainly because of the dire lack of managers that were known to the general WeBL public. The only managers anybody outside the region would have been able to name would likely have been Foxxx and myself. But as it would later turn out - the talent was present, it just needed to be discovered.

The regional community was pretty much non-existant and with no serious competition something was needed to liven things up a bit to get things going. I had written for an European WeBL page for a short while before the split so the idea of setting up a Scandinavian page wasn't too far away. Site Of Scandinavia was created sometime in October 2000 and had very few visitors in the early days due to the fact that pretty much nobody knew it existed, but as time went by the number of visitors increased. Early writers on SoS were Blizzard and Mixus Punchline as well as myself with others coming and going as time went by. A few snippets of the ancient version of SoS has survived, and some early guestbook comment can be found here. Two weeks of Blizzards coverage also survived the ages and can be found here:20/11-2000 & 27/11-2000

Slartibartfast (PityPart) became the first Scandinavian fighter to conquer a world title after the Scandinavian region was created. He had won the title a few weeks before the split against another Scandinavian: the sissy JunkYard Adolph (JunkYard). He will likely be remembered most for his loss to Pneumonic after having exposed Pneumonics weak chin as well as two later title defences that ended with draws in fights he should have lost.

In the months that followed Flat Out started to show the form that later made him famous and collected title after title. Around the same time the infamous Lord Pain and Team Svinehund kp-flash/sluggers started to show up in title fights and would become a pain for many newbies in the time to come.

The Scandinavian community expanded and the names of Jerry Springer Draftshow, Gazza's Gang, st James park & FC Copenhagen Pro Boxing were often seen in title fights, but managers like Umea West Side, Slap Me Hard, Les Miserables and a p.u.n.c.h still in sissy-mode also showed up in title fights as well as in the community in general.
