Pride of Pacific #1 Pound-for-Pound Prospect!

Rodney "Ten Count" Warfield (27-1-1) was announced as the #1 pound-for-pound prospect in the latest official rankings, and is turning heads in the heavyweight division

Rodney "Ten Count" Warfield (27-1-1) was announced as the #1 pound-for-pound prospect two days ago. With good reason as all of Warfield's 27 wins have came by way of first round knock-out. Warfield has been in against top opposition as well, last Saturday Warfield kayoed extremely tough top contender Woody OD (40-18 KO 39) to cement his position as the #1 pound-for-pound prospect. Warfield's critics used to say he didn't have what it takes to go the distance. He proved them wrong when he went all the way, successfully defending his USA Pacific Heavyweight championship against RuPaul "Supermodel" Charles (31-18-5). The technical battle ended in a draw as Warfield came on strong in the twelfth stunning Charles and retaining his title. Most boxers with so much success in the pro ranks have had a long, equally successful amateur career. Not so with Warfield.

Warfield didn't turn pro until the late age of 32. Which is often the case with Olympic quality amateurs, however Warfield was anything but. Warfield suffered a string of knock-out loses in a disappointing amateur career. He retired from boxing and worked as a block mason working on construction sights for several years.

"Yeah, me and Rodney go way back," states construction worker and alleged friend Vince Petticoat," when we was young me an' Rodney'd go down ta the gym and punch bag for fun. I remembers we'd spar sometimes, he was real slow an' left his face wide open. Rodney, he was real outta shape back then, I mean he was strong, but kinda a pile if ya know what I mean. After he got knocked-out for da 19th million time sumbody called him Rodney "Ten Count" Warfield, and da tag stuck... Me an' Rodney worked construction for years, then one day he up and desides ta be a prize fighta and started trainin' like I'd never seen. He got in ta top physical condition and really learned how ta box. I remebas the day before he went pro, he says to me, he says,'Vinnie I'm gonna show these young punks what an old man can do'. Ya know, he wasn't jokin' either!"

He certainly wasn't joking as he climbed his way to #11 in the heavyweight rankings, destroying everybody in his path. On Saturday the 13th Warfield faces the biggest test of his career as he will step into the ring against tnt-Red Mosquito (32-5-5 KO 14). This is a super fight that will probably determine the future of the heavyweight division. A win for either fighter would put him in the top ten and set him up for a title shot if he can put together one or two more victories. One thing's for certain though, win or lose Warfield's story is an inspiration to us all. Reminding everybody that no matter what your age you can do anything if you put your mind to it.
